TCA A Message from the Head of School

Trinity Christian Academy
Where life intersects learning

The recent headlines have left many of us discouraged, perplexed, and upset. Our hearts cry out for a solution that we know is within reach, but we struggle to find answers that call us to the right actions. Trinity Christian Academy will always stand against racial injustices and acts of violence. We exist to partner with families in shaping the minds of our youth, for their future, not our past. TCA is committed through educational inroads to build a generation who will not look away from injustices because every person bears the image of God. TCA is dedicated to being a safe place for voices to be heard, a people who want to listen and learn, and a community passionate for unity in diversity.

Do we understand racial issues as much as we should? As a community, do we know how to be anti-racist in word and in deed? Do we mistakenly equate diversity with equality? Have we fooled ourselves into thinking that because we are a richly diverse nation we must be in great shape with everything surrounding racial inequities? What is the most Christ-like way to respond? These more recent incidents prove that we still have a lot to learn on every side of the equation.

Christian education is one of the keys to building the moral and values-based character of the rising generation. We need to do better. Trinity Christian Academy partners with families to provide students with the answers to our culture’s complex questions. Answers that align with the God of all Truth who hates the sin of injustice, violence, and racism. TCA and other faith-based schools must play a leading role in developing a truly united America, because we know that everlasting peace can only be found in Jesus Christ. We know that authentic love has the same origin and therefore we cannot truly love our neighbor without Christ in us. There is hope and truth to be found for this generation.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

TCA is accredited by three organizations. In a recent publication, Mark Elgart, President and CEO of Cognia (AdvancED), one of the accrediting bodies for TCA, stated “We must find the resolve and commitment to determine the root causes. We must take the necessary, challenging steps to address these matters, so to eradicate their existence. The solution to our current crisis may start with new laws and policies, but must be built upon a culture of mutual respect, honesty, and fairness. The work of building the culture we want and that our children deserve begins in our communities through our schools, places of worship, and homes, as well as through our government and community leaders at all levels. The road ahead will not be easy, but often the most important improvements in life are the most challenging.”

As we bring to bear the values that align with our gospel beliefs, we want the result to be unity in diversity. Knowing truth, knowing right from wrong is only the beginning. A diverse classroom must be an environment where dialogue is welcome. Guided by knowledgeable and caring teachers, students of every race and socio-economic background must have the freedom to voice their struggles as we develop a generation who is well versed in the issues. Our world needs graduates who are grounded in convictions that are eternally supported by our loving, grace-filled God.

Let’s help our children learn to be independent thinkers, openly pursuing positive change with an understanding from all sides of an issue.

TCA is committed to partner with your family as we help our children understand how the God of creation intersects with a solution for the plight of humanity. We obviously need to gain a broader perspective. A perspective that we no doubt have heard before, but we have never allowed to result in change. Education will be a powerful change agent against systemic racism.

Solutions must be carried in the hearts and minds of this rising generation.

Much of what we value has not been attained, we can do better. We want our students to be the best, most authentic version of the “C” in T.C.A. Trinity Christian Academy wants to show our community what true unity looks like. Let’s all set aside everything we think we know about racism, and start listening with a clean slate, free of bias, free of prejudices, free of selfish agendas. We need to listen, really listen for understanding. Listen because we love humanity. Listen because we care.

Prayerfully,

David Welling

Head of School
